Meet Amy and Nicole from IconiX Salon and discover how the duo of super mums combined forces to open two successful salons and a mobile wedding team in Wollondilly.
First things first, tell us about yourselves
Amy…
I’m a wife and mother of 2 kids. I’ve been around the block working in fashion, cosmetics and hardware and I’ve completed both a business and real estate course. I’m a makeup artist by trade and have owned my own business for 22 years. I’ve also been a professional singer in a band for 15 years!
Nicole…
I’m also a wife and mother of 2 kids. I’ve been in the hairdressing industry for over 28 years. My passion for styling is what ultimately made the big decision to open my own business specialising in occasion hair (mainly weddings) for the past 11 years before IconiX was born.
How did it all begin?
We met through being the make-up and hair specialists booked at a number of weddings and friendly chit chat developed into realising we had the same dream of owning a salon.
Fast forward 4 years and that dream has now translated into two successful salons in Thirlmere and Bargo as well as a mobile bridal salon with over 13 staff.
Tell us a little more about your business
In our beautiful modern salons, you can get everything from a simple haircut to a complete makeover. We are a one stop beauty destination, offering Hair, Makeup, Beauty services and spray tanning. Our creative team of Hairstylists and Makeup Artists will create the perfect look just for you using leading premium products.
We also offer Beauty Treatments such as waxing, tinting, facials, peels, massaging, spray tanning and more at our Thirlmere salon.
We are proud that both our salons are sustainable and we recycle up to 95% of our salon waste.

Honestly, we saw the business for sale in Thirlmere and thought it was a great area with a lovely community. We love the Dilly!
What’s your favourite part about the Wollondilly business community?
That we all support each other! When times get tough, we all pull together, support each other and lift each other up. We recommend each other and help build local businesses as a community.
Customers, we love them. What makes yours special?
All our customers mean the world to us and are like family. We have such a diverse customer base. Our oldest customer is in her 90s and we do all ages down to kids. They come for Hair, Makeup and Beauty and even sometimes just for a chat!
What makes your business successful?
Our Team! We have a very talented and dedicated team, that are passionate about what they do We create amazing work and results as well as creating lovely relationships with our clients. IconiX Salons are also very modern and innovative. We are constantly looking for new and improved ideas, providing a high level of customer service and go above and beyond for our clients and community.
We are the only salon in the Wollondilly that provides specialists in hair, makeup and beauty all in the one location, as well as mobile bridal. In such a short period of time we have developed a great reputation and built a large clientele and are gaining new clients on a daily basis.
What’s your one piece of advice for other entrepreneurs looking to set up a business in The Dilly?
Take the leap! If you have someone you can do it with or share it with, that is an asset...we don’t know what we would do without each other! It can be tough at times but it’s worth it.
And just for fun… If you could have any artist or band play in your backyard-living or not, who would it be?

Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Evanescence, Nickleback, Queen, INXS, Crowded House, ACDC....My goodness, too many to pick from! If any of them could play in my backyard I’d be stoked!
Nicole…
PINK! She is a magical performer. If I could have a band perform I would say Coldplay, they brighten your day with their energy and performance.
